Online shopping in smart EPP coolboxes

An increasing number of people in Holland are ordering their groceries online! Simple, easy and convenient,

from your couch, or from behind your desk. Delivered at a time that suits you. The reason for supermarkets to respond in a smart way to this growing market. Fresh products must be delivered from the distribution center into the customer’s kitchen in perfect condition. Of course, these products must be transported efficiently, optimum protection and cooling is essential. HSV found the answer; a smart coolbox manufactured in EPP.

In February 2016, HSV contacted an online retailer. It was clear they were using EPP cool boxes in the logistics chain, from the distribution centre to the customers at home. There was one important issue with these boxes that needed improvement: 66% of empty space was transported! This called for a smarter way to pack the groceries in order to safe logistic costs.

HSV got the assignment to design a brand new box that could encounter all the requirements. HSV did it! With the newly designed box it is possible to combine transport of groceries for three customers in one box; a tremendous saving in cost and space. Before this solution the box allowed the packaging of groceries for just one address. In addition, HSV recommended using the cooling elements as dividers as well, another space-saving solution.

During the whole process, HSV has assisted her client in advising and designing the new box, prototypes and the validation.

With their solid engineering of a customized product solution, HSV was able to achieve immediate cost savings and create an efficient logistic solution. Another project to be proud of as particle foam engineers!
