This large German manufacturer of mobile air conditioning units was looking for an internal housing for a new generation of lightweight, rooftop systems, like those used in buses. The interior of these systems had to be light, robust, and shock-absorbing; it was intended to replace traditional metal versions.
This client’s engineers designed a complete piece of equipment and asked HSV to test the design for feasibility and if they could manufacture the product. The draft design contained numerous opportunities for optimisation in terms of manufacturing and quality, which we added as part of our collaboration. Thanks to special features, the longest parts are 3.2 metres and have a tolerance of +/- 3 mm.
Our client found the perfect solution in the use of EPP. Components have been incorporated in the EPP, which saves time and money during assembly. The parts also remain acceptably light for the top of a bus. Attachment components incorporated in the foam enable assembly on the roof.
