Transporting vaccines | Added value of particle foams

We are seeing hopeful media reports that the COVID-19 vaccine will be available soon.

To ensure that biological products retain their efficacy, they must be transported under stable conditions. Special cooler boxes and packaging materials made of particle foams, like airpop engineered air (EPS) or EPP, can offer added value.

Products made of particle foams are about 98% air, shockproof and capable of maintaining a stable temperature.

Products made of particle foams are generally about 98% air, making them lightweight and shockproof. In addition, they are hygienic, resistant to chemicals and retain their shape. Due in part to their cellular structure, they have excellent thermal properties. Shipments of biological products can be kept at a stable temperature for many days.

For these reasons, particle foams are also used in protective packaging materials for fragile medical equipment, transport cases for transplant organs and other markets.

Particle foams are very sustainable

Particle foams are very sustainable, especially when compared to other materials such as cardboard. For example, much less water and energy is consumed during the production process.
