The Solar Team Eindhoven (TU/e) was looking for a lightweight kitchen unit to install in the Stella Vita: their ‘Self-sustaining House On Wheels’. This solar-powered mobile home was developed and realised in 2021.
Berco Truck Components bv, one of the sponsors of the Solar Team, is familiar with EPP in material applications and brought this project to the attention of the particle foam engineers at HSV. Working closely with Berco, HSV supplied the EPP parts for this lightweight, sustainable kitchen unit for the Stella Vita.
As a particle foam, EPP has material properties that make it perfect for this project, since EPP is lightweight, robust, food-safe, easy to clean and fully recyclable.
The kitchen unit, assembled entirely from milled EPP parts, consists of a number of cabinets, drawers and doors and is surrounded by a casing. The EPP parts have been finished with a textured ‘layer’ of EPP applied by laser texturing in a mould. This finishing touch supports functionality and gives the kitchen unit a sleek, modern look.
HSV is a sponsor of the Stella Vita and the Solar Team Eindhoven (TU/e). HSV promotes the development of new and innovative technologies that make a constructive contribution to a sustainable future and a better environment. Our involvement in this project is in line with the philosophy of our organisation.
About Stella Vita
This mobile home generates enough solar power for people to live, work and relax in the vehicle, while travelling on the energy of the sun. By designing and building the Stella Vita, Solar Team Eindhoven aims to be an inspiration for the transition to a sustainable future, in both energy and mobility. The Solar Team Eindhoven website offers more information about the project.
